The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Benue State has officially nominated former Governor Samuel Ortom as a member of the party’s Board of Trustees (BOT).
The nomination, which follows the expiration of the tenure of previous BOT members, marks a significant leadership shift within the party in the state.
This was disclosed in a statement on Tuesday by the party’s Publicity Secretary, Tim Nyor.

“In compliance with Sections 32(1)(g) and 32(4) of the PDP Constitution, the nomination was communicated via correspondence from the party secretariat to Chief Ortom, signed by the party Secretary, Comrade Dan Nyikwagh,” the statement read.
The State Working Committee (SWC), led by Chairman Rt. Hon. Ezekiel Awulu Adaji, highlighted Chief Ortom’s extensive experience and dedication to the party as key factors behind his nomination.
“After careful deliberation, the SWC unanimously endorsed you for the position, recognizing your invaluable contributions to the party, your exemplary leadership, and your commitment to the ideals and progress of the PDP,” the SWC stated.
Chief Ortom, who governed Benue State from 2015 to 2023, has been a prominent figure in the PDP and is widely recognized for his leadership and advocacy on social issues.
His appointment to the BOT is expected to bolster the party’s influence and strategic direction, particularly as it gears up for upcoming elections.
The SWC expressed optimism that Chief Ortom’s contributions to the BOT will strengthen party cohesion in Benue and amplify the state’s interests within the national party framework.
“With this nomination, Chief Ortom is set to play a crucial role in shaping the policies and direction of the PDP, not only in Benue State but across Nigeria,” Nyor added.
