The Benue State Community Volunteer Guards (BSCVG) paraded three suspects on Tuesday for allegedly stealing diesel from the TRIACTA Construction Company located in New GRA, Makurdi.
According to the Commander of BSCVG, Captain Ayuma Ajovbi (rtd), the suspects were apprehended on Sunday night at the site close to the residence of the state governor, Rev Fr Hyacinth Alia.
Captain Ajovbi stated, “After the operatives of Volunteer Guards discovered that the suspects had siphoned diesel from the heavy-duty trucks into jerrycans and were attempting to transport them into a waiting vehicle, they were arrested.”

While presenting the suspects, Ajovbi condemned the act as sabotage and praised the vigilance and training of the BSCVG operatives. He mentioned that four other suspects involved in the theft were being pursued.
Emmanuel Ogbu, the Intelligence Officer of BSCVG, revealed that one of the suspects, Mohammed Adamu, attempted to bribe the operatives with N70,000.
Adamu, who is reportedly a repeat offender in diesel theft, claimed he was invited by some staff members of the company.
The chief security officer of Triacta Construction Company, Benjamin Atsaga, confirmed that the company had experienced similar thefts in the past due to collusion among staff, leading to dismissals.
Atsaga stated, “I am surprised to discover that the same person who was arrested on a similar crime for stealing and selling diesel is one of the suspects who was arrested today.
He is a black marketer who has run afoul of the law many times.”
The BSCVG assured the public that after completing their investigation, the suspects would be handed over to the appropriate authority for prosecution.
