Most Rev. Emmanuel Chukwuma, the Archbishop of Anglican Archdiocese of Enugu, has urged Nigerians and the leaders to be optimistic for a turn-around in the fortune and destiny of the nation.
“As it is said in the Holy Book, with God nothing is impossible; it then means that our situation in the country is changeable and turn-around is realisable, if we turn to God. As well, work hard and be focused in changing the country for the betterment of all,” Chukwuma said this yesterday during a homily at a Christmas mass in the Bishop’s Court, Enugu.
He also called for honest and purposeful leadership in order to redeem the country from its present state; “just as Christ redeemed mankind”.
Our leaders at all levels must sacrifice and work hard to redeem the image, resources and morality of the nation. Where the rich endowment and wealth of the country would be evenly distributed to check hunger, lack, joblessness and social strives. Our people must be set-free from economic and mental slavery already pervading the land,” he said.
The cleric also enjoined the state governors to join in the diversification drive being championed by the President Muhammadu Buhari-led Federal Government. He said all hands must be on deck since state governments must work hard to alleviate poverty and hunger at the grassroots to regain the confidence of the people.
“For the Church, we would continue to pray for the protection and divine direction of our leaders as well as give constructive and corrective advice. I believe as Nigerians we have the capacity to turn-around or change this great and blessed country,” he added. [Anglican/NAN]
