Former Deputy National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Bode George, has reaffirmed his commitment to the party, declaring that he will never leave despite ongoing internal crises.
Speaking in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Sunday in Lagos, George addressed the leadership challenges facing the PDP and the recent wave of defections by some senior members.
He expressed confidence that the party’s current problems would be resolved and that the PDP would emerge stronger.

“I can’t leave PDP, I can’t. Look, every other party is like a miniature congregation of strange bedfellows.
They do not have the principles that we have in our party. So why would I leave reality for others? I would rather go home because I believe so much in the principles of the party,” George said.
He criticized those leaving the PDP over internal challenges, stating that their lack of commitment was evident.
According to him, many defectors have since realized that the PDP remains the only party in Nigeria that truly practices internal democracy.
George cited the example of the late Chief Alex Ekwueme, a founding PDP member, who failed to secure the party’s presidential ticket on two occasions, demonstrating that the PDP is not built around individuals.
‘PDP Does Not Miss Defectors’
When asked whether the party missed former chieftains such as Peter Obi and Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso, George dismissed the notion, saying that the PDP does not miss individuals but rather the values of selflessness, dedication, and progressive politics that the founding fathers stood for.
“The failure of Ekwueme to clinch the ticket against President Obasanjo showed the PDP’s commitment to internal democracy.
Yet, he never raised his hands to demonize or destroy the party,” George said, praising Ekwueme’s loyalty and leadership.
He urged party members to prioritize the collective interest of the PDP over personal ambitions, emphasizing unity and legacy-building as the path to overcoming the party’s current challenges.
