The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) yesterday debunked reports mostly on social media that Cameroonian troops killed the purported Boko Haram leader, Abubakar Shekau, in a cross border raid into Nigeria.
Reports had quoted a Cameroonian military source as saying Shekau was killed during a cross border raid and aerial bombardment deep inside Nigeria by the Cameroonian military.
But the DHQ in a tweet stated that: “There was no raid whatsoever in any part of Nigeria’s territory in pursuit of terrorists as claimed in some reports allegedly quoting Cameroon military authorities.
“All operations ongoing in the environs of Konduga and all associated border location within the country are completely being undertaken by Nigerian troops”.
Meanwhile, the Defence Headquarters also claimed yesterday that 10 Boko Haram insurgents had surrendered to troops in Kuwari district, Konduga, Borno State.
It said in a statement on its Twitter handle yesterday, “Another Set of 10 Terrorists yesterday surrendered to Troops at Kawuri,” adding that: “In custody for necessary security debriefing”.
