kashi_shettima_crying_chibokGovernor Kashim Shettima of Borno State yesterday cut short his campaign trip across the state as a result of the bomb attacks on Maiduguri, the state capital.

The governor, who was in Marama in Hawul Local Government Area in the southern part of the state on a campaign trip and to inaugurate the Food for All Initiative in the area, left the venue of the occasion at about 3pm when he was informed of the unfortunate attacks, which killed over 50 persons.

The governor, however, did not depart the ground until an Imam and a pastor prayed for the peace of the land, the repose of the dead and the quick recovery of the injured.

Speaking from Marama, the Chairman of Borno State Emergency Management Agency, Alhaji Grema Terab, said, “It was unfortunate (these incidents) in Maiduguri today”.

“I am in Marama with the governor to launch the Food for All Initiative, where we are targeting to feed 1,000 in Hawul Local Government Area but heard the sad event in Maiduguri. Our men are at present on a rescue operation and the evacuation of the dead.

“I am yet to be informed of the number of casualties at the three spots.

“The mood is sad here and the governor had to cut short his campaign, he asked for prayers from both Christian and Muslim clerics at about 3pm when the news filtered in here”.
