A former Transportation Minister during the Shehu Shagari administration, Alhaji Umaru Dikko is dead.
His death was confirmed by his son, Dr. Bello Dikko and another family member.
The prominent northern politician passed on early Tuesday in a London hospital. He was aged 78.
It would be recalled that in 2013, Mr. Dikko, who was ill and receiving treatment abroad, was appointed as chairman of the National Disciplinary Committee of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, by then national chairman of the ruling party, Dr. Bamanga Tukur.
His poor state of health was confirmed by a family member, who said the elder statesman had been ill for “quite some time” and suffered three strokes in a row.
