The leader of the Biafra Republic Government in Exile (BRGIE), Simon Ekpa, has issued a stern warning against the misrepresentation of the Biafra struggle.
Ekpa, who claims to be the Prime Minister of BRGIE, raised concerns over an alleged plan to settle refugees, migrants, and internally displaced persons (IDPs) in Imo State.
In a statement shared via his official X account, Ekpa addressed a recent viral video that purportedly claimed the government was planning to resettle refugees, IDPs, and migrants at the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN) study centre in Nsu, Ehime Mbano.
Ekpa condemned the alleged plan and vowed to protect the Southeast region from threats of terrorism, banditry, and other forms of insecurity.
He stressed that the lives of Biafrans were of paramount importance to BRGIE, insisting that no settlement of Boko Haram or other displaced persons would be allowed in Biafraland.
“There is nothing like gunmen. The Biafra government will not allow any Boko Haram IDP camp in Biafraland,” Ekpa declared in his post.
He further asserted that BRGIE, under his leadership, is responsible for the security of the Southeast, not the Nigerian government.
“Biafra government is in charge of the security in Biafraland, not Nigeria. And under my leadership, we will do everything to secure Biafra territory,” he added.
His comments come in the wake of a fire incident that saw the residence of former Senator Frank Ibezim, who represented Okigwe North, and the NOUN study centre in Nsu set ablaze on Monday.
The attack was condemned by the Imo State Police Command, the state government, and Senator Ibezim.
Ekpa’s warning has stirred further debate about the security situation in the Southeast, as tensions remain high amid the ongoing Biafra agitation.
