The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has criticized President Muhammadu Buhari for his frequent trips abroad despite the economic problems currently plaguing Nigeria.
The PDP also said that Buhari is comfortable travelling often because he collects his “estacode”, the travel allowance given to government officials, in dollars.
The opposition party made the comments via its Twitter handle today, February 19, 2016.
“If Buhari was collecting estacode in Naira, would he still travel as often? His estacode is in dollars,” the PDP said.
“Every of the president’s foreign trip is estimated at $1m which will cost tax payers about N400m.
“President Buhari needs to stop all foreign travels & concentrate on just the economy. Things are so bad. We are a step away from recession,” it said.
Buhari is set to leave Nigeria for Egypt today, February 19, 2016, just about a week after he returned from London on February 10.
Other Nigerians via social media have also criticized the president’s trips using the hashtag, “WakaWakaBuhari.”
