In response to claims by the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) that the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari was on motion but not making any movement, the All Progressives Congress has highlighted the achievements of the Buhari-led administration in the past one month.
Speaking at a press conference hosted by the party in Lagos, yesterday, the spokesman for the party, Mr Lai Mohammed, said that there had been motion and movement by the Buhari’s administration.
Mohammed noted that the APC “understands and appreciates the concerns of Nigerians as far as the perceived pace of the administration is concerned”.
“We understand that they repose so much confidence in the party and the government to act quickly to stamp out insecurity, tackle corruption, revive the moribund economy, provide jobs and generally restore hope.
“Justifiably, the expectations are high and urgent, and the Buhari administration has started addressing them, despite the enormous challenges that it faces, including an empty treasury and an economy that has virtually collapsed,” he said.
On why it seemed like things have been slow, Mohammed said “What the country has been accustomed to is transition from one government to another under the same ruling party, not from the ruling party to the opposition as we have now. The implication is that this is a new learning curve, with its attendant hiccups.”
However, he noted that President Buhari can boast of having achieved some important things in the last 30 days, one of which is that he had put strategies in place to tackle insecurity and further strengthen the fight against terrorists in the north-east.
“This is one area in which the Buhari Administration has hit the ground running. The President had hardly been sworn into office than he embarked on a shuttle diplomacy to rally Nigeria’s neighbours to act as a common front against the terror group Boko Haram.
“The President travelled to Chad and Niger, and then hosted a summit of the Lake Chad Basin Commission that comprised Cameroon, Chad and Niger, with Benin also invited.
“The result is the decision to deploy the Multi National Joint Task Force (MNJTF), with headquarters in N’Djamena, Chad, on July 30th to pep up the fight against Boko Haram! This is the same force that the past administration could not get off the ground in six years!
“That’s what we meant when we said what the Jonathan Administration could not do in six years, the Buhari Administration has done in three weeks, not minding that some mischievous elements decided to quote us out of context,” Mohammed stated.
He also pointed out that Buhari has started his fight against corruption and it is already yielding fruits.
“Thanks to the painstaking efforts of President Buhari, Nigerians now know that out of 8.1 trillion Naira generated by the NNPC in three years, 3.8 trillion Naira was not remitted to the Federation Account. Nigerians now know that the cash in the Excess Crude Account has been depleted by 2 billion dollars without explanation,” the APC National Publicity Secretary said.
He added that Buhari’s emergence as Nigeria’s president has returned the country’s lost glory, citing the election of former Agricultural Minister Akinwunmi Adesina as the president of the African Development Bank as an indication.

Comment: Mshewwwwww. this is an empty publication. Was the Multinational JTF not GEJs initiative and bokoharam menace overthrown b4 d handing over? We least expected any bombing and killing in GMBs rule as it occured. Besides, what does the election of former Agricultural Minister
Akinwunmi Adesina has to do with Nigerian glory? I personally needed dollar and the rate at the local market in Jalingo last week was 240 naira per dollar. Fuel is still scarce with long waiting hours at Mega stations. About the empty treasury u claimed, can you swear that the outgoing president did not leave over 30 billions in the treasury? Our high expectations are gradually fading and beginning to turn to disappointments. The average Nigerian belief in evidence based changes and not abstract ones. When will we see d change? When will GMB turn the water into the wine? When will the miracle take place?
