The Bayelsa State Independent Electoral Commission (BYSIEC) has issued certificates of return to the winners of the April 6 Local Government Area elections.
The certificates were presented to the eight Local Government Council Chairmen and their Vice Chairmen, all from the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). The ceremony took place at the NUJ Press Centre in Yenagoa.
Dr. Peter Singabele, Chairman of BYSIEC, described the event as the fulfillment of the commission’s mandate to issue certificates of return, marking the final step in the 2024 election process.
He stated, “Once you have your certificate and are sworn in, you can now operate as elected Chairmen of your various council areas as the third tiers of government set up at the grassroots.”
Speaking on behalf of the elected Chairmen, Bulodisiye Ndiwara, the Chairman-elect of Yenagoa LGA, thanked BYSIEC for the successful conclusion of the exercise.
He also expressed gratitude to the party for their support and congratulated Bayelsans for voting them into office.
Mrs. Alice Allen Tangi, the only female Chairman-elect of Sagbama LGA, pledged to improve governance at the grassroots level.
She emphasized her commitment to agriculture, human capacity development, and education funding in Sagbama LGA.
Tangi stated, “There are so many opportunities that we will benefit as a people. I will ensure we tap into them and make them worthwhile.
Under my tenure, the girl child will have a voice in the society. We will encourage agriculture by making everyone go into farming, and ensure our farmers are supported adequately.”
