Arsenal will be looking to make it fifteen years unbeaten at Villa Park as they search for a victory which would put them back on top of the Premier League.
.
It was in December 1998 that Dion Dublin snatched a late winner for Villa to secure a 3-2 win, and the home side will hope for a similar conclusion at full- time on Monday evening which would put them eight points clear of the bottom-three.
.
A win for Paul Lambert’s side would be their first double over Arsenal since the inaugural Premier League season in 1992/93. Belgian striker Christian Benteke scored twice at the Emirates Stadium in August, when Villa won 3-1, but since then has struggled for form and is currently 11 league games without a goal.
.
Arsenal fans booed at full-time that day, but things have turned around in North London. Wenger has masterminded a terrific Arsenal side to 45 points after 20 matches, which is the highest by them since 2007/08.
.
Their results on the road have been excellent as well, with Arsenal picking up 41 points on their travels last year – the most by any side during 2013.
.
Villa have struggled in-front of goal at home as well, not scoring in five of their last seven, whilst their opponents have scored in eight out of ten away games in the league.
.
Stopping the Gunners has been made a lot harder with the news that Villa defenders Ron Vlaar (calf) and Nathan Baker (hamstring) are both doubtful.
.
They do however welcome back Ciaran Clark from suspension, as well as Brad Guzan and Gabriel Agbonlahor who have overcome minor injuries.
.
Arsenal can expect to have French striker Olivier Giroud available again after his back injury and illness, whilst Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain could also be in contention for a return following his knee injury.
