BANGUI, Central African Republic, November 19, 2013/African Press Organization (APO)/ — The city of Bangui has been the theater for more than a week now of violence characterized by armed robbery and summary and extrajudicial killings. Amongst the identified victims are FACA soldiers and Mr. Modeste Martineau Bria, a senior magistrate assassinated in the night of the 16 November 2013.
BINUCA recalls that the security of persons and belongings are first and foremost the responsibility of the transitional Government. Therefore, it urges the national authorities to shed light on these killings and assassinations and to bring to justice the perpetrators of these crimes.
BINUCA requests the transitional authorities to pursue and speed up the restoration of the capacities of the police and the gendarmerie and to exclusively entrust to them with the mission of maintaining law and order in Bangui.
