The Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, has cautioned personnel of the Nigerian Armed Forces to avoid causing harm to innocent citizens during operations.
General Musa issued the warning on Friday during an official visit to the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA) in Kaduna State, where he inaugurated several completed projects aimed at enhancing cadet welfare and training.
“We must understand that the Armed Forces of Nigeria exist to serve Nigeria and its citizens. Our duty is to protect the country and its sovereignty, whether within or outside, not to harm innocent people.

This is a responsibility that must be taken seriously,” Musa said.
He further emphasized the importance of adhering to the military’s core duty of safeguarding the nation while addressing cadets.
“As you grow in the system, understand clearly that our mission is to protect and defend our country,” he added.
Adapting to Modern Warfare
General Musa urged officers and cadets to prepare for the evolving nature of warfare, particularly with the integration of artificial intelligence in combating insecurity.
He warned that officers abandoning their responsibilities for personal gain would no longer be tolerated.
“The days of self-aggrandizement are over. You will be posted to challenging terrains as junior commanders to protect the citizens and defend the country against threats,” Musa stated.
ICT as a Tool in Modern Warfare
The Commandant of the NDA, Major General John Ochai, underscored the role of Information Communication Technology (ICT) in addressing terrorism, banditry, and other security challenges facing Nigeria.
Ochai highlighted the NDA’s ongoing efforts to incorporate ICT into its training programs, equipping cadets with the skills needed to confront contemporary and emerging security threats effectively.
The CDS’s visit reinforces the military’s commitment to professionalism and leveraging technology to enhance national security while prioritizing the safety of innocent citizens.
