The National Film and Video Censor Board, NFVCB, has seized pornographic, pirated and uncensored films worth over 2.5 million naira in Abuja.
In the raid several home video retail outlets and shops in Wuse 11 and Dutse Alhaji market were affected, as they were taken by surprise by the board supported by security men, reports Daily Independent.
The NFVCB Director of Operations, Conel Agim, said that they were acting according to the directives of the board’s head which is to fish out all illegal films from the market as they were corrupting the mindsof youths.
He said, ‘One of the cardinal objective of the new director-general is to make sure that all unwholesome films, especially the pornographic ones, must be cleared off the streets, because these things are illegal, they are contributing negatively to the behavioral attitudes of our youths’.
The film censor board is authorized by law to regulate the operation of the industry as regards film production and registration of video retail and rental outlets.
