Chelsea is set to make a formal approach to Derby County for manager Frank Lampard, as they plan to offer their former player a three-year contract to replace Maurizio Sarri, who left recently.
Sarri’s exit was confirmed yesterday by Chelsea director, Marina Granovskaia, who said the ex Napoli coach went back to Italy so he can be closer to his family and friends.
Lampard is seen as the 1st choice to be ex Chelsea academy coach, Jody Morris, and fitness coach, Chris Jones, set to join him in going back to Stamford Bridge.
Derby is planning to keep Frank Lampard after a decent 1st season in charge. He led his team to the Championship playoff final and has been offered a contract extension to continue his good work.
Chelsea will have to part with £4 million to free Lampard from his Derby deal but that should be no problem as they just received £5m from Juventus for Sarri.
Derby chairman had this to say, “There’s no change in the situation at present, except for the fact that Chelsea no longer have a manager,”
“We have made it clear to everyone, but most importantly to Frank himself, that we want to retain him at the club for the long term.
