In the absence of any last minute changes, the President-elect, General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), will visit Owerri, the Imo State capital today on a thank you visit.

According to a Government House statement signed by Governor Rochas Okorocha’s media aide, Mr. Sam Onwuemeodo, and made available to journalists in Owerri, the visit will serve as avenue for Mr. Buhari to meet people of the state and thank them for contributing to his resounding victory at the recently concluded presidential polls.

“His Excellency, General Muhammadu Buhari, the President-elect on the platform of All Progressives Congress, APC, will be visiting the state to thank the people and government of the state for their unalloyed support that contributed greatly to his resounding victory at the polls on March 28”, Onwuemeodo said.

While noting that God used Gov. Okorocha to make the state and the South-East geo-political zone to be part of the success story of Mr. Buhari’s victory, Onwuemeodo assured the people that they would be carried along in the unfolding dispensation.

“In the new emerging order, everybody will be carried along and people will not be discriminated against on ground of their political leaning”, Onwuemeodo said.

Although the state government described the president-elect’s visit as a thank you tour, some political analysts are of the view that it is meant to be a campaign tool for the re-election bid of Mr. Okorocha.
