ABUJA (Women Affairs Ministry Report) – The Director-General of the Nigerian Television Authority, Shola Omale has commended the Federal Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development for holding a successful inter-faith special national prayers to complement government’s efforts at safe release of the Chibok school girls who were abducted by insurgents over 50 days ago.
Shola Omale, who made the commendation when he visited the Minister of Women Affairs and Social Development, Zainab Maina in her office at the weekend also praised the efforts of the Minister towards bringing the issues of women, children and other vulnerable Nigerians to limelight since assumption of office. “You have done excellently well in putting that programme together, which displayed a high level of commitment to a just cause. No doubt, there is nothing more portent and powerful than prayers to stem the tide of insurgency and security challenges facing our country,” he said.
The DG of NTA further noted that the Ministry is working hard in its efforts at uplifting the lives and living standards of women and children in Nigeria. Adding, the Women Affairs Minister’s commitment to transforming the social development sub-sector is remarkable. He also pointed out that the issues of women and children in the Transformation Agenda could not be emphasized, assuring the Minister that the largest television network in Africa will continue to give prominence to the issues and concerns of women, children and other vulnerable groups.
According to him, the NTA has recently introduced a talk show captioned: “Good Morning Nigeria” to provide additional platform for top government functionaries to inform the public about their programmes and activities and urged the Minister to utilize the opportunity provided in the programmes of the NTA.
While responding, the Minister of Women Affairs expressed appreciation to the NTA for its timely and positive reportage of the activities of the Ministry. She also expressed optimism that the tenure of Shola Omole as DG of NTA would focus greater attention on the issues of women and children, considering his wealth of experience in the broadcast industry.
In a letter of appreciation presented to the DG during the visit, the Minister commended him for the visionary leadership and wealth of experience which he has demonstrated in steering the affairs of the NTA since assumption of office. She wished him a successful tenure in NTA leadership.
She further disclosed that the Women Affairs Ministry is programme-oriented, indicating that it requires the support of the media to excel and appealed to the DG of NTA to speed up support for the advocacy drive of the Ministry towards addressing the plight of the vulnerable Nigerians in the purview of the Ministry.
