child brideA 14-year-old girl in Kano has confessed to killing the man she was forced to marry, police say.

Wasilu Umar, a child bride, admitted killing her husband, who was more than twice her age, by concealing rat poison in his food, the Kano State Police Command said.

Three other people also died while 10 were taken to hospital apparently after eating the poisoned meal.

Just recently, the issue of child marriage became the topic of national discuss when a controversial senator and former Zamfara State governor, Ahmed Sani Yerima, openly advocated and showed support for child marriage, saying it was permitted under Islam.
