On Sunday, China urged both Palestine and Israel to stop fighting and show moderation in order to prevent future civilian casualties.
A Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson said in response to questions about the fierce conflicts between Israel and the Palestinian militant group Hamas in the Gaza Strip, which have resulted in massive casualties on both sides, that China is deeply concerned over the current escalation of tensions and violence between Palestine and Israel, and calls on relevant parties to remain calm.
On Saturday, Hamas launched a barrage of rocket assaults, the largest escalation in decades and the cause of death for nearly 200 Israelis. Reports indicate that Israel has retaliated with a barrage of airstrikes on Gaza, killing over 230 Palestinians.

The spokeswoman said the escalation of hostilities once again proves that the peace process can’t remain at a halt. The two-state solution, in which Israel and Palestine coexist, is essential to ending the conflict.
State-run Xinhua news agency quoted a representative as saying the international community needs to act with greater urgency to increase input into the Palestine question, assist the early restart of peace talks between Palestine and Israel, and find a way to bring about lasting peace.
The spokeswoman stated that China is committed to working tirelessly with the international community to achieve this goal.
China has up its diplomatic efforts in the Middle East this year, and in March, it mediated a surprising agreement between Saudi Arabia and Iran to stop their hostilities and restore diplomatic ties.
After a long period of animosity between the two influential Middle Eastern countries, Iraq, Syria, Lebanon, Yemen, and Bahrain were all helped to find peace thanks to Beijing’s mediation.
