Ahead of next Saturday’s governorship elections nationwide, a Christian group has pledged to mobilise Christians in Adamawa to vote Malam Nuhu Ribadu, candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, as Governor of Adamawa State.
The group, PDP Christian Supporters Forum for Ribadu, said its decision was based on the anti-corruption history of the PDP flag bearer, who was pioneer chairman of Nigeria’s anti-graft agency, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC.
The chairman of the group, Vincent Hassan, who stated his group’s stance at a press conference in Yola, the state capital on Saturday, urged Nigerians to desist from voting people of their religion, saying the election of Muhammadu Buhari as Nigeria’s next president last Saturday was an indication that competence and history matters to voters.
Mr. Hassan said Ribadu, though a Muslim, is the best among the governorship candidates in the state hence the group’s decision to support him regardless of his religion.
He said his group was sure that a vote for Mr. Ribadu is a vote for rapid socio-economic transformation of the state.
