Rev. Fr. Simon Akuraga, the Cathedral Administrator at Catholic Diocese of Jalingo, yesterday called on parents and guardians to inculcate sound moral values and cultural norms in their wards to make them responsible citizens. He made the call at a get-together party held for children at Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Cathedral, Jalingo.
He explained that the event was meant to teach the children to adhere to the teachings of the church when they grow up in addition to imbibing good family values.
“The church promotes good family values and we organised this party to bring the children and their parents together and to encourage them to grow with the fear of God.
“Today, the church celebrates the feast of family and we put this event together to encourage them to see the need to spend time together, so that their children can learn from them,” he said.
Akuraga enjoined the children to honour and respect their parents and elders at all time, praying God to grant them a better future.
In his remarks, Mr Jerome Akaater, said the event afforded children the opportunity to learn and play together, adding that various skills exhibited by the children could be harnessed to ensure a crime-free society..
Akaater called on the cathedral administrator to retain the event as an annual one so as to keep the children in the right track.
Hundreds of children from within and outside Jalingo as well as the clergy attended then event. [Jalingo/NAN]
