The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede, has reiterated his commitment to fostering an inclusive leadership approach aimed at building a collaborative and effective Armed Forces capable of addressing Nigeria’s security challenges.
This was disclosed in a statement issued by the Director of Army Public Relations, Major General Onyema Nwachukwu.
According to the statement, the COAS made this remark while addressing Principal Staff Officers at Army Headquarters following the Regimental Quarter Guard procedure, which marked the final stage of his formal assumption of office as the 24th Chief of Army Staff.
Lieutenant General Oluyede praised the officers and soldiers of the Nigerian Army for their dedication, resilience, and support during the period leading to the burial of his predecessor, the late Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja, whom he described as a patriot who rendered dedicated service to the nation.
He emphasized the need for innovative approaches in addressing security challenges, urging commanders to think creatively and develop strategies to combat emerging threats.
Reflecting on his recent visit to troops of the Joint Task Force Operation HADIN KAI in the North East, Oluyede assured the troops of his unwavering commitment to providing them with the necessary support and morale to end terrorism and insurgency in the region.
“The Nigerian Army recognizes the fluidity of emerging security challenges and the rapidly evolving security landscape,” the COAS stated. “We are determined to stay ahead of the curve.”
He further urged commanders at all levels to devise innovative solutions to combat terrorism and insurgency in volatile regions across the country.
Earlier, during the event, the Chief of Administration, Major General Ohwonigho Akpor, described the regimental procedure as a solemn tradition.
He noted that the old Nigerian Army flag had been retired to the Nigerian Army Museum for custody, rather than being presented to the outgoing COAS, as an enduring symbol of his command.
