Osun State Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) yesterday said it would not oppose any legitimate tax introduced by Governor Rauf Aregbesola and told people of the state to cooperate with government, only when asked to pay statutory dues.
Reading the communique of Osun Central Senatorial Stakeholders’ meeting held in Osogbo, the state capital, a third republic Senator, Olu Alabi, lamented that the cost of many projects embarked upon by the government are exorbitant.
The party stressed that it did not harbour any personal grudge against Governor Aregbesola, but hinged its constant criticism of his administration on non-delivery on pre-election promises.
The opposition party, for instance, pointed out that the cost of many road contracts awarded by the present administration were beyond what the economy of the state could afford and called for more judicious management of Osun’s resources.
The communique also demanded immediate conduct of elections into 30 local government areas in the state, including Ife East Area Office, Modakeke, eight years after the last one was held.
The communique read in part: “we also demand immediate disbandment of an armed group called ‘State Boys’ to give indigenes freedom to express themselves.
“Also, the governor should henceforth, respect opinions of others, especially, stakeholders and the situation of education in Osun at the moment is critical and needs urgent attention.
“Osun education sector needs emergency rescue of by all the stakeholders to rescue the children of the poor from their current situation as many of them may not get back to track, if urgent intervention by the stakeholders is not provided”.
