On Wednesday, September 7, 2016, the Council of State approved the appointment of the Acting Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Ibrahim Idris.
President Buhari appointed Idris as the police IG on June 21, 2016, to replace ex IG, Solomon Arase, who attained the mandatory retirement age of 60.
The Council also approved the appointment of six Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Resident Electoral Commissioners (RECs) and five National Population Commission (NPC) commissioners.
Reports say the Senate President, Bukola Saraki and Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara, were absent when the meeting started around 11:08 am.
An interesting incident took place when journalists and photo-journalists assigned to the Presidential Villa reportedly got carried away and abandoned President Buhari to get shots and comments from former President Goodluck Jonathan.
The Council of State is made up of all ex-Presidents and Heads of States, Vice-President, Governors, Senate President and the House of Representative Speaker.
