Justice M.A. Hassan of the Federal High Court, Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Division, has issued an interim injunction barring the Boniface Aneibonam-led faction of the New Nigerian Peoples Party (NNPP) from organizing local, state, and zonal congresses or state conventions under the party’s name.
The ruling came in response to an ex parte motion filed by the NNPP, led by National Chairman Dr. Ajuji Ahmed, and 19 members of its National Working Committee against Aneibonam, 19 others, and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
In suit number FCT/HC/CV/5518/2024, Justice Hassan ordered Aneibonam and his associates to cease all official activities or representation under the NNPP’s name until the determination of a motion on notice for interlocutory relief.

The court also directed INEC to refrain from recognizing or engaging with the defendants, including monitoring or supervising their activities under the NNPP banner.
INEC was further restrained from responding to any correspondence from the faction.
The case has been adjourned to January 27, 2025, for a hearing on the motion.
Reacting to the court’s decision, NNPP National Publicity Secretary Ladipo Johnson commended the ruling, describing it as a crucial step toward affirming the party’s legitimate leadership.
In a statement, Johnson accused Aneibonam and his group of acting as agents of opposition parties, adding that they had been expelled from the NNPP.
“Since their expulsion, they have attempted to confuse the public about the rightful leadership, logo, and colors of the NNPP,” Johnson stated.
He further emphasized that the court’s order prohibits the faction from engaging in any activity under the NNPP name, while also restraining INEC from monitoring or responding to their illegal actions.
“We remain undistracted and focused on our objectives. We hope they will appear in court so that their unlawful use of the party’s identity can be permanently stopped,” Johnson concluded.
