Cristiano Ronaldo To Sign New Contract

ronal-300x2001Real Madrid star Cristiano Ronaldo will sign a new contract in the coming week, according to multiple reports from Spain.

Ronaldo, 31, has a deal which runs until June 2018, and planned talks between his agent Jorge Mendes and Blancos chief Perez reportedly began weeks ago over an extension — with the player saying last June he could see himself playing until he was 40.

The Portugal captain will remain the highest paid player at the Bernabeu, according to the reports, and could sign up until 2021, when he would be 36 years old.

Luka Modric, Toni Kroos, Lucas Vazquez and Gareth Bale have all signed new contracts in last few weeks, with reports in England claiming Bale had replaced Ronaldo as Madrid’s best paid player.

Other Madrid players in the queue for renewals include defender Pepe whose deal ends next summer, and playmaker Isco who is contracted up until June 2018.

Asked about the latest on his contract extension in the mixed zone last month, Ronaldo said: “I don’t know, you would have to talk with the president. Things are going well. The media have written it already, you know more than me. If I were the Madrid president, I would give me 10 more years.”

“I don’t see anything else in my career [except Madrid]. That is what I want most. This is the biggest club in the world, so it should have the best players.”

Ronaldo has been criticised in some quarters this season, but after struggling with an injury that saw him substituted in the Euro 2016 final, he has scored five goals in seven La Liga games.
