Former CPC members and now-chieftains of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) have demanded positions in President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration.
The Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) and the CPC, two major opposition political groups, merged to form the current ruling party, the All Progressives Congress (APC), in preparation for the 2015 elections, as previously reported by Infostride News.
The demand was made in a statement released to the media on Thursday by Mallam Abubakar Maikudi, the former national youth leader of the defunct CPC.
In addition, he extended his best wishes to the new Cabinet members of the current administration.
He said that during the presidency of Muhammadu Buhari, numerous members of the now-defunct ACN were appointed to high-level government positions and boards.
It is expected, he insisted, that Tinubu will do the same by including former CPC leaders into his administration.
We recognise that they are all capable hands, each with impressive credentials and years of expertise. We have faith that they would help the president advance reforms and policies that will propel Nigeria to new heights. They need to prove they’re worthy of the President’s confidence.
We remember that Mr. President, a member of the now-defunct Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) bloc, and former President Muhammadu Buhari, a member of the now-defunct CPC bloc, both played crucial roles in the formation of the APC, which ultimately led to the historic election victory over the then-ruling People’s Democratic Party (PDP).
Although we have united with APC, the different interests we advocated for before the merger remain crystal obvious. We have faith in President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s ability to balance competing interests, given his extensive political background.
During PMB’s presidency, many former ACN leaders were appointed to cabinet positions and board memberships. It is consequently anticipated that the BAT Administration will follow suit by incorporating former CPC leaders onto his own team.
Both the North and the South have qualified people the President can nominate to important positions. During the election, we turned out in force to support President Tinubu. There was no question in our minds about his abilities. Therefore, we wish to join his group in order to spread Renewed Hope throughout Nigeria. We all know the President made a commitment to lead a diverse and welcoming administration,” he remarked.
