39 suspects have been arrested by the Delta State Police Command in connection with the communal crisis between two neighbouring communities, Ibabu and Iselegu, which has led to the beheading of a young man.

In a joint operation with the Army, the police command also recovered arms in the warring communities, stored in readiness for continued onslaught against each other.

“Following the recent communal clash between Ibabu and Iselegu communities in Ndokwa East Local Government Area of the state, during which one Efe of Iselegu community was allegedly beheaded, the state police command in synergy with the military carried out joint mop-up of arms operation in both communities and arrested 28 suspects from Iselegu community while 11 were arrested from Ibabu community, said Celestina Kalu, Police Public Relations Officer in the state.

“The mop-up operations were geared towards the recovery of illegally acquired fire arms in circulation in the area and to restore lasting peace to the communities. So far, sizeable number of arms and ammunition have been recovered.”
