The Supreme Court has delivered a decisive victory for Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori by dismissing the petitions filed by the Social Democratic Party (SDP) and its governorship candidate, Kenneth Gbagi, as well as the Labour Party (LP) and its candidate, Ken Pela.
In a unanimous judgment, the apex court dismissed all grounds and allegations against the March 18 gubernatorial election last year, affirming the validity of Governor Oborevwori’s victory.
Justice Mohammed Garba Lawal, delivering the lead judgment, described the claim that Governor Oborevwori was not qualified for the election as “laughable” due to lack of evidence supporting the allegations.

The court also rejected the assertion that the election was invalid, confirming that Governor Oborevwori was duly elected by the majority of lawful votes cast.
In a separate judgment concerning the appeal by the Labour Party and its candidate, Justice Musa Uwani Aba-Aji stated that the petition lacked merit and was frivolous.
The court found that the appellants failed to substantiate any of their allegations, leading to the dismissal of the petition in its entirety.
With the Supreme Court’s latest rulings, all three appeals lodged by the APC, SDP, and LP have been dismissed for lacking merit, solidifying Governor Oborevwori’s position as the legitimate governor of Delta State.
