The sum of N3.5 billion has been proposed by Delta State Ministry of Housing for the building of houses for Civil Servants and other Deltans in the 2014 fiscal year.
The Commissioner for Housing, Chief Paulinus Akpeki disclosed this when he appeared before the Delta State House of Assembly Committee on Housing to defend this year’s budget proposal of his Ministry.
Chief Akpeki who was accompanied by some Principal Officers in the Ministry said funds for building of houses by the State Government in oil producing areas of the State were not handled by his Ministry, but by DESOPADEC.
The Commissioner expressed satisfaction with the project proposal believing that it will enable his Ministry finish strong at the close of the year, soliciting the cooperation of the House to enable the Ministry actualize its decision of providing affordable and decent houses, assuring the House Committee that the 2014 budget will take care of all commitments in keeping with the promise of the State Governor, Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan to finish strong.
The Commissioner who was accompanied by the Permanent Secretary, Mr. Paul Evuarherhe, directors and other officials of the Ministry noted that the mind of the Government as regards capital expenditure is to finish strong and touch the lives of all Deltans, adding that the State Government has concluded plans to renovate and maintain most Government housing estates during the current year 2014.
The Chairman of the Committee, Hon. Kenneth Daubry expressed the readiness of the House to drive the policies of Government to its logical conclusion, reiterating that his committee would further examine the budget proposal of the Ministry with a view to fine tuning it for the benefit of Deltans.
He noted that in the face of serious financial challenges last year across the nation the State Government performed well, adding that recommendations will be made to the State Government as they have observed that it would perform better if there are no financial constraints.
