Following the signing into law of the Delta State Traffic Management Agency Bill, the Delta State Government will soon commence the recruitment and training of over 750 persons as staff of the State Traffic Management Authority.
The Commissioner for Transport, Hon. Benson Roland Igbakpa gave the hint while addressing newsmen in Asaba, saying plans to that effect have been concluded as the State Governor, Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan has since given its approval.
According to the Commissioner, the 750 persons billed to be employed would be engaged under the paramilitary set up as against the usual Civil Service settings, adding that they would be made to man the seven pilot cities of the State Traffic Management Agency.
The cities, he explained, include Agbor, Asaba, Warri, Udu, Sapele, Uvwie and Ughelli, just as he disclosed that the Governor has also approved the purchase of the relevant equipment and logistics meant for the smooth take-off of the Agency. The agency, when fully operational, among other things, will be saddled with the responsibilities of ensuring sustained restoration of sanity on road in the State through the civil enforcement of the State traffic rules and regulation
