Senegalese champions, Diambars managed a lone goal win over ASFA Yennenga of Burkina Faso in their Orange CAF Champions League prelims first leg clash on Saturday in Mbour.
Seydina Keita scored the only goal of the match on 74 minutes to give the debutants a lone goal advantage ahead of the second leg next weekend in Ouagadougou.
The encounter got off on a high note with both clubs searching for the opener in the early stages. Diambars, making their maiden appearance at the continental stage, dominated in the latter stages of the first half and Ousseynou Ndiaye was unlucky to have broken the deadlock on 38 minutes after stumbling on the ball and allowing the visitors defence to clear their lines.
Prior to that, Alassane Sango had come close to scoring for the Burkinabes, capitalizing on a poor clearance by the Diambars goalie, but his effort went off.
On 74 minutes, the homers finally managed to put their noses in front, with Serge Gomis delivering a thunderbolt that ricocheted off the post before Keita headed in the rebound, for the only goal of the match.
In other matches, Sporting de Praia Cruz stunned Malian champions, Stade Malien, beating them 3-2 in Sao Tome.
