The South African Consul General to Nigeria, Amb. Sam Monaisa has expressed the hope of direct flight from Cape Town and Durban, South Africa to the Asaba International Airport in the nearest future.
The Consul General, who was in the State for the official commissioning of the Nelson Mandela Garden project, stated this while speaking to a group of journalists during a visit to some projects done by the Delta State Government around the State capital.
According to the Consul General who said he was impressed at the infrastructural development around the State capital especially the Asaba International Airport, described Asaba as “a city of the future” saying that the Airport has the capacity of attracting a lot of investment to the State, adding that the State is now rightly positioned as one of the major industrial centers in the country with the potential of improving the economic fortune of the South-South region of the country.
He said investors in South Africa are looking forward to the opportunity of coming to do business in the region.
On his part, the Delta State Information Commissioner, Chike Ogeah Esq., said the State was hoping to have a robust strategic partnership with the Republic of South Africa, adding that the Mandela Garden project is yet another opportunity of exploring avenues of getting South African investors to do business in the State so as to complement what the Government is doing.
Some of the projects visited included the St. Patrick’s College, Asaba, Model Primary School, GRA, Asaba, the Event Centre and the Asaba International Airport.
Other officials of the State Government on the visit included the Commissioner for Infrastructure, Barr. (Mrs.) Orezi Esievo, her Works counterpart, Rt. Hon. Funkekeme Solomon as well as the Executive Assistant to the Governor on Beautification, Angela Nwaka and a renowned Environmentalist, Chief Newton Jibunor.
