Does Jose Mourinho Need Jordi Alba?

zajosemourinho0dcd1Manchester United are reportedly keen to sign Jordi Alba to solve their problems at left-back, though he seems more likely to remain with Barcelona in this transfer window.

The Spain international endured a frustrating season at the Nou Camp last term, but is said to feel more positive about life at the club under new manager Ernesto Valverde.

Alba joined Barcelona from Valencia back in 2012 and has been a key player for club and country since then, establishing himself as one of Europe’s top full-backs.

United could certainly do with strengthening in that area, with Jose Mourinho unhappy with his current options after rotating between the likes of Luke Shaw, Daley Blind, Matteo Darmian and Ashley Young in 2016/17.

According to ESPN, the Portuguese is an admirer of Alba, though may have to look elsewhere for the time being as he is leaning towards continuing to fight for his place at Barca.

Alba’s current contract runs until 2020, so Barcelona will be under little pressure to sell even if he does have a change of heart later in this transfer window.

United’s only signing so far this summer was at centre-back, with Victor Lindelof arriving from Benfica.
