Former National President of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Chief Wole Olanipekun (SAN), has counseled Ekiti State Governor, Mr Ayo Fayose, not to allow the opposition distract him from leading the state to greater height.
Olanipekun gave the advice in Ado-Ekiti while on a courtesy visit to the governor in his office.
In a statement by the governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Mr Idowu Adelusi, on Tuesday, the former NBA president said Fayose’s victory in last June governorship election was well-deserved.
“You are an achiever going by your performance during your first term in office. Your victory in the June 21 governorship election is well-deserved. You laid the foundation for the state during your first term.
“I am sure you are going to do more this time around. Don’t allow the opposition to distract you. The people of the state have not made a mistake by voting for you, as they made the right choice. Face the implementation of the programmes you have lined up for execution as Ekiti people will not judge you by how you have replied the opposition, by what you do to improve their living standard,” the statement quoted Olanipekun as saying.
The renowned lawyer said though there were some challenges the administration inherited, he expressed optimism that they would be surmounted.
Olanipekun promised to support the government and urged the people of the state to do same.
In his remarks, Governor Fayose appreciated him for the visit, saying he had known and seen Olanipekun as a great son of Ekiti who is respected.
“You have distinguished yourself in your calling and I respect you as a great Ekiti son and leader. I need the support of people like you and all Ekiti sons and daughters. I promise not to allow the ranting of the opposition to distract me and I will deliver on my electoral promises,” he added.
