Dr. Sam Amadi, Director of the Abuja School of Social and Political Thought and former chairman of the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC), has criticized the leadership of the Labour Party (LP), describing it as “awful.”
Amadi made this statement in response to the suspension of the party’s national treasurer, Oluchi Opara.
Opara was suspended by the LP’s National Working Committee (NWC) just 48 hours after she accused the party’s National Chairman, Julius Abure, of misappropriating N3.5 billion in campaign funds.

Opara claimed that the funds were raised from sales of forms and fundraising activities in preparation for the 2023 general elections.
In a press briefing in Abuja, the party’s national publicity secretary, Obiora Ifoh, announced Opara’s suspension for six months, alleging that she was under external influences and had only read a press statement written by detractors to tarnish the party’s image.
Amadi expressed his disappointment with the LP’s leadership in a post on his official X account, stating, “Sadly, the LP has been terribly managed.
There’s an absolute lack of leadership. Yes, APC may have tried to undermine it. But its leadership has been awful.”
Amadi’s criticism highlights growing concerns about the internal management and leadership of the Labour Party, raising questions about its ability to effectively navigate challenges and maintain its relevance in Nigeria’s political landscape.
