The Federal Government has recently expanded the list of motor parks eligible for the 50% rebate on transport fares for Nigerians traveling between states. This move aims to provide more accessible options for citizens to benefit from the ongoing transport fare reduction initiative. The additional motor parks are strategically located in various states across the country, including Lagos, Abuja, Onitsha, Abia, Kano, Jos, Enugu, Uyo, Gombe, Port Harcourt, Sokoto, and Owerri.
This significant update was disseminated through an official statement posted on the Office of Special Adviser on Social Media to President Bola Tinubu’s handle on X (formerly Twitter). The statement outlined the expanded list of motor parks, offering more choices for travelers to avail themselves of the 50% rebate on interstate travel from December 21, 2023, to January 4, 2024.
To recap, Nairametrics previously reported on December 20, 2023, that the Presidency had initiated a 50% reduction in transport fares for interstate travel. Additionally, free commuter rides on all rail lines throughout the country were announced for the same period. The aim of these measures is to ease the financial burden on citizens during the festive season and encourage safe and affordable travel.

Moreover, Nairametrics highlighted that the implementation of the scheme would be carried out by approved transport firms. The list, provided by the Federal Government through the Special Adviser on Information & Strategy to the President, Bayo Onanuga, includes renowned companies such as GIG (God is Good) Motors, Chisco Transport, Young Shall Grow, God Bless Ezenwata, and Area Motor.
Expanding on the list of additional motor parks, citizens can now utilize the following terminals to benefit from the 50% interstate fare reduction initiative:
1. Oshodi Terminal 3, Lagos State
2. Jabi Park, Abuja
3. Umugo Park (along Port Harcourt Road), Onitsha
4. Abia Polytechnic, Aba
5. Balmary Park, Ring Road/Maiduguri Bypass, Hotoro, Kano
6. Mando Park (Lagos route), Kaduna
7. Television Garage (Eastern route), Kaduna
8. Gadabiu Luxury Park, Jos
9. Old Park, Enugu
10. Somachi Park, Owerri
11. Olu Obasanjo Ezenwata Park, Port Harcourt
12. Sokoto Central Park, Sokoto
13. Gombe Central Park, Gombe
14. Heavy Duty Park, Zakibiam
15. The Young Shall Grow Park, Uyo
16. The Young Shall Grow Park (No.17 Monsignor Akpan Avenue), Uyo
17. Mbak Itam Itu, Akwa Ibom
18. Gombe Line Park, Opposite Government House, Gombe
It’s crucial to note that a recent field survey conducted by a correspondent from Nairametrics revealed that some of the approved transport firms were not fully implementing the presidential directive. Several terminals of these transport companies were observed charging the full transport fare for interstate travels, contrary to the announced reduction.
For instance, The Young Shall Grow Terminal at Ikorodu Garage, Ikorodu, Lagos State, was found to be charging the normal fares for interstate travel to South Eastern states on December 23, 2023, during the field survey. This discrepancy highlights the importance of monitoring and ensuring the effective implementation of government directives to guarantee that the intended benefits reach the citizens as intended.
