Nigeria’s Dream Team VI was commended by football fans on Sunday in Lagos for its victory at the just-concluded U-23 African Nations Cup (AFCON) held in Senegal.
The Director of Brazil Rock Solid FC, Michael Adjuya, praised the team for winning the tournament, adding that it was a double victory for the country. “First, they qualified for the Olympics through this competition and winning the competition at the end is a remarkable thing. I have confidence in the ability of coach Siasia and I believe he will get the team ready for the 2016 Olympics”, he said.
Nigerian team defeated its Algerian counterpart 2-1 in the final of tournament. Friday Ekpo, a former Super Eagles player, commended the team for lifting the trophy. Ekpo said the team should be reinforced to strengthen the players for the tasks ahead. “This victory is another plus to football in Nigeria and a pleasant gift from the players and the coach to the country in this season of celebration.“ Despite all the challenges Siasia faced, he was able to coach the boys to victory’’, he said.
More so, Chairman of the Lagos Divisional Football Association (LDFA), Falade Oyekan, said the team was able to triumph because of its determination. Oyekan, who is also a board member of the Lagos State Football Association, said the team’s victory was an attestation to the development of football at the grassroots.”The boys have done the country proud and we are proud of them for their commitment and dedication all through the competition.”, he said.
Eight African countries participated in the competition which kicked off on Nov. 28 and ended on Dec. 12.
