The Ogun State Governorship Tribunal has set Saturday, September 30, 2023, as the day when the judgement will be delivered in the case of Ladi Adebutu vs. Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Dapo Abiodun, and the APC.
The Ogun State Election Petitions Tribunal has earmarked Saturday, September 30, 2023, as the date for delivering its judgement in the petition lodged by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and its gubernatorial candidate, Ladi Adebutu. This petition challenges the outcome of the March 18 governorship election, which saw Abiodun emerge victorious.
Reliable sources have confirmed that the tribunal officially communicated this date to all concerned parties on Thursday. Obioma Ezenta, the Secretary of the Ogun Tribunal, verified this in a conversation with our correspondent.
Afolabi Orekoya, the Media Aide to the PDP’s gubernatorial candidate, has also affirmed that their party received due notification of the impending judgement.
Justice Hamidu Kunaza, the tribunal’s Chairman, reserved the judgement shortly after both parties presented their written arguments on September 4, 2023.
Adebutu and the PDP have jointly contested the legitimacy of Abiodun’s victory, as announced by INEC in the March 18 governorship election.
During the adoption of his statement, Wole Olanipekun (SAN), representing Abiodun, urged the court to dismiss the PDP’s petition, citing its lack of merit and its status as a mere academic exercise. He pointed out that the petitioners’ sole contentions were neither properly signed nor stamped, thus rendering them devoid of merit and suitable for dismissal.
