The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ebonyi State has accused the All Progressives Congress (APC)-led government in the state of mismanaging public funds by prioritizing frivolous projects over critical needs.
In a statement issued on Saturday by PDP chieftain, Mr. Nwoba Chika Nwoba, the party expressed dismay at the administration of Governor Francis Nwifuru, alleging that billions of naira have been spent on less impactful initiatives, including the recent hosting of the First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu.
The statement highlighted the party’s concerns about the state’s economic priorities amidst widespread poverty and delayed payments of salaries, particularly to teachers, whose October salaries remain unpaid despite it being mid-November.

“The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ebonyi State uses this opportunity to berate the APC-led government of Ebonyi State over the government’s penchant for spending Ebonyi people’s money on frivolities – things that don’t matter to the Ebonyi society for now, whereas the major areas that need urgent attention have been either completely abandoned or treated with levity,” Nwoba said.
While clarifying that the PDP has no objection to the hosting of the President’s wife, the party criticized the financial extravagance involved.
“It bothers a sane mind a great deal to know that the government could recommission an airport project that had already been commissioned two years ago.
Using the face of the President’s wife as a decoy to embark on the wasteful and theatrical outing is what we frown at,” the statement read.
The PDP also urged the state government to redirect its focus toward addressing the pressing needs of Ebonyi residents, especially during this period of economic hardship.
“This is a case of government’s inhumanity to its populace. It’s on this premise and more that we urge the government to backtrack from wasteful expenditures and begin to meet the people of the state at the points of their collective needs,” the statement added.
Efforts to obtain a response from the Commissioner for Information and State Orientation, Engr. Jude Okpor, were unsuccessful as he did not respond to messages at the time of filing this report.
