The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ebonyi State has elected Mr. Peter Nwele as its new chairman, with a focus on reuniting party members and strengthening its position for the 2027 elections.
Speaking at the state congress held over the weekend in Abakaliki, Nwele pledged to bring back former members who had left the PDP, aiming to build a strong coalition capable of reclaiming the state.
“Ebonyi has always been a PDP state, and we will bounce back in 2027,” Nwele affirmed.
The congress was conducted under the supervision of a seven-member committee from the party’s National Secretariat, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), and various security agencies.
“Ebonyi State has been PDP from the beginning, and it will continue to be PDP. There is no crisis in the party,” Nwele declared.
“Our focus now is on reconciliation, welcoming back those who left, and uniting to regain our lost mandate.”
Chairman of the Congress Committee, Ugonna Ogbonna, praised the peaceful and transparent nature of the event, commending party members for their orderly conduct.
Chief Ali Odefa, the PDP’s National Vice Chairman for the South East, echoed this sentiment, noting the strong support for the PDP in both Ebonyi and the nation. He expressed confidence in the party’s preparation to challenge the ruling APC in 2027.
Odefa dismissed any notion of internal crisis, asserting, “There has been total reconciliation; the National Working Committee is united, and we stand as one.”
He urged the newly elected state executives to prioritize efforts toward full reconciliation.
