The Ebonyi State Police Command announced the arrest of 177 suspected criminals in October 2024, with charges ranging from human organ harvesting and ritual killings to kidnapping, murder, and armed robbery.
At a news conference in Abakaliki on Friday, Police Public Relations Officer DSP Joshua Ukandu disclosed that the suspects included 162 men and 15 women.
Of these, 92 have already been charged to court, with the remainder awaiting further investigations.
“On behalf of the Commissioner of Police, CP Anthonia Uche-Anya, I welcome you to this briefing on the Command’s achievements in October 2024 and our continued commitment to fighting crime and fostering a secure environment for socio-economic growth,” said Ukandu.
He noted that strategic stakeholder engagement has helped reduce violent crime in Ebonyi, adding, “Operatives of the Command are committed to making the state safe for all.”
Addressing the allegations of organ harvesting and ritual killings, Ukandu recounted the case of Mrs. Blessing Chikezie, who reported her husband, Mr. Idenyi Chikezie, missing after he left for a business trip to Lagos on September 9.
Following investigations, four suspects linked to organ harvesting were apprehended.
In addition, the Command reported arrests for kidnapping, murder, robbery, and unlawful possession of firearms.
