Chima Ekuma Nkama, Chairman of Edda local government area of Ebonyi State, has called upon candidates of all political parties participating in the forthcoming Ebonyi south senatorial zone bye-election to prioritize peace and eschew violence.
In a statement to newsmen in Abakaliki, Nkama emphasized the need for a peaceful electoral process, stating that the bye-election should not be approached as a do-or-die contest.
He urged candidates to adhere strictly to the rules and regulations governing the electoral exercise, which is set to occur across five local government areas: Ohaozara, Onicha, Ivo, Afikpo North, and Edda LGA.
Nkama highlighted the importance of the agreement among stakeholders that the election should be conducted in a peaceful manner.
He also noted that the All Progressives Congress (APC) had reached a consensus on its candidate, emphasizing that there should be no cause for discord within the party.
Speaking on the APC’s standing in the state, Nkama affirmed the party’s alignment with the aspirations of the people of Ebonyi south senatorial zone.
He assured that the party would field a candidate who enjoys widespread acceptance among the electorate.
Addressing internal party dynamics, Nkama expressed his resolve to withdraw support from individuals who had previously contested elections and failed, particularly in the 2023 general elections.
He stressed that the focus remains on the advancement and prosperity of the people of Edda LGA.
