A Commissioner-designate in Edo State, Kassim Afegbua, has criticised the 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, over his proposal to serve only one term if elected president in 2027.
Afegbua described the idea as both laughable and impractical, insisting that four years would be grossly insufficient to transform Nigeria.
Speaking on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily on Wednesday, Afegbua argued that meaningful reforms and development require more than a single tenure.

“Nobody should tell you he’s coming from the South to spend four years, because for me that is just like telling a bogus lie,” Afegbua said.
He added: “I know that it is not possible. One term is inadequate to turn things around positively in Nigeria.”
The Edo commissioner-designate maintained that Nigerians deserve realistic leadership commitments rather than promises that cannot be fulfilled within constitutional or developmental constraints.
