Edo State Deputy Governor, Philip Shaibu, has outlined his achievements as the current administration prepares to hand over power, highlighting the state’s advancements in sports, education, healthcare, and infrastructure.
In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Shaibu expressed gratitude to the people of Edo State for their support and partnership during his time in office.
“Welcome to November, a month of thanksgiving and transition,” Shaibu wrote. “As I reflect on our eight remarkable years in office, I am filled with gratitude for the trust Edo people have placed in us. It has been an honour serving as your Deputy Governor.”
Shaibu highlighted the accomplishments of the Obaseki-led administration, noting that Edo State had become a leading sports destination, while significant progress had been made in education, healthcare, and infrastructure.
He emphasized the administration’s commitment to its “Making Edo Great Again” (MEGA) vision, which he described as a guiding principle rather than just a slogan.
“To my fellow Edo citizens, I thank you for your support, encouragement, and partnership. Your resilience and determination inspire me every day,” he added.
“As we transition, I urge you to remain committed to our shared vision of a prosperous, inclusive, and vibrant Edo State.
Let’s continue to work together to build a brighter future for ourselves, our children, and generations to come.”
Reflecting on the recent months, Shaibu endured a challenging tenure marked by a public fallout with Governor Godwin Obaseki.
This rift led to Shaibu’s impeachment by the Edo State House of Assembly, but the decision was later overturned by an Abuja Federal High Court, restoring him to his office.
In the midst of these tensions, Shaibu defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC). During the recently held governorship election, APC candidate Monday Okpebholo defeated the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate Asue Ighodalo, Obaseki’s endorsed successor.
