The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on Thursday, May 15th, 2014 arraigned a former staff of Chevron Nigeria Limited, Mr. Michael Adenuga before a Lagos High Court sitting in Ikeja over a three-count charge of fraudulent conversion and stealing a property worth N5.5billion.
Adenuga ran into trouble when he allegedly used his company: Covenant Apartment Limited to convert to himself and company about 22.68hectares of land situated at Aiyetoro Ikota area of Lagos State between September 2011 and February 2014. Besides, he also allegedly forged a Lagos State land sales document claiming that the said land had been sold to him by Chevron Nigeria Limited.
EFCC counsel, Jamiu Musa told the court that Adenuga tendered forged documents before its officials at its Lagos office with an intent to deceive them.
Adenuga pleaded not guilty to all charges preferred against him when they were read to him.
The defendant’s lawyer, Ehis Badmus, told the court that he had already filed a bail application on behalf of his client and begged the court to remand him in the EFCC custody. He argued that his client is diabetic and has high blood pressure and that remanding him in the Kirikiri prisons would further worsen his condition.
Presiding Judge, Justice Sedoten Ogunsanya adjourned the matter till May 21, 2014 and ordered that the defendant be remanded in Kirikiri maximum prison.
