Ekiti State Government in collaboration with the World Bank has empowered 50 older Orphans and Vulnerable Children (OVC) selected across the 16 local government areas of the state.
Presenting start-off grant and equipment to the beneficiaries during the closing ceremony of a 15-day training on essential life skill organized for the OVC, the wife of the Governor, Mrs. Feyisetan Fayose said the workshop was designed to lift the suffering of the selected children and create an enabling environment to facilitate their development.
Mrs. Fayose noted that the children are vulnerable due to the challenges facing them such as undue family responsibilities at tender ages, stigmatization, abuse, exploitation, discrimination and violence among other.
Stressing that the training will go a long way in giving succor to the children as well as reduce the hardship which at times lead to high mortality rate among the vulnerable children, the Governor’s wife expressed appreciation to the World Bank for partnering the state government in such an enviable project.
She urged the beneficiaries to put into profitable use the knowledge gained at the workshop.
In her remarks, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Women Affairs, Gender Empowerment and Social Development, Princess Adekunbi Obaisi expressed appreciation to the Governor’s wife for ensuring the success of the programme.
The older orphans and vulnerable children (OVC) were exposed to 15 days of training on different trades varying from soap/detergent making, stove wick making, phone repairs, confectioneries/baking as well as decorations.
