In recognition of the vital roles of small and medium scale enterprises to the economic vitality of Ekiti State, the Governor, Dr. Ayodele Fayose has reiterated his administration’s commitment to create an enabling environment for the promotion and growth of small and medium scale enterprises (SMEs) to make the state a destination of choice for business.
The Governor stated this at the official opening of the 1st Ekiti Christmas Bonanza Fair organized by the Ekiti State Chambers of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture (EKCCIMA) at the trade fair complex in Ado-Ekiti.
Dr. Fayose, who was represented by his Deputy, Dr Kolapo Olusola stressed that his government would identify and harness all untapped
natural and human potentials in agriculture, tourism, minerals etc that abound in the state to provide a lasting solution to poverty and unemployment in the state.
He disclosed that his government has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) to access two billion naira to promote small and medium scale enterprises to boost the state’s economy.
Noting that trade fairs remained a veritable means of wooing potential investors towards participating in the economic growth of a state, the governor said his government was poised to take giant strides at putting the state on the map of economically viable states in Nigeria.
The Governor, who reminded the gathering that he put the Trade Fair Complex in place and host a trade fair during his first term, pointed out that no other governor in the state has ever done this since he left office.
Dr. Fayose commended the state chambers of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture for organizing the special Christmas Fair titled “New frontiers in Boosting Commercial and Industrial Development in Ekiti State”, stressing that his government would be ready at all times to support individuals and corporate organizations to create a forum that would showcase immense social-economic potentials in Ekiti.
While appealing to indigenes of the state to show interest in the activities of his government to transform the agro-industrial sector, the Chief Executive said the vast arable land in the state could be cultivated to provide adequately for the nation.
In his welcome address, the President of Ekiti State Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture, Chief Kola Akosile said the fair was organized to promote economic activities of the state during this yuletide season as well as to showcase the economic potentials that were stockpiled in the state to the outside world.
He commended the Governor for encouraging EKCCIMA to organize the fair, noting that the Governor hosted the 1st Joint Trade fair here in Ado-Ekiti with the construction of the permanent Trade Fair complex under his administration.
The Governor thereafter went round the various stands that were mounted for the display of locally made wares and technologies.
