Principals of secondary schools in Ekiti State have again been charged to be more assiduous in preparing their final year students for the coming WAEC and NECO examinations to ensure that the state achieve its target of 80% credit passes in 5 subjects including English language and Mathematics in the year’s national examinations.
The reminder came from the Deputy Governor, Dr. Kolapo Olusola at an interactive session with principals of secondary schools in Ekiti State at Olaoluwa Muslim Grammar School, Ado Ekiti.
Dr. Olusola who stressed the importance of principals as critical stakeholders in the realization of this target, said that their firm control of their schools as administrators would go a long way at bringing back the lost glory of the state in the education sector.
He assured that government would play its own role towards achieving the set target, adding that salary arrears of teachers and running grants to schools would soon be paid to encourage operational performance of every school.
While commending some principals for their outstanding performance in their various schools, the Deputy Governor warned them against involvement in unethical practices that can vilify their professional career.
According to him, government would soon release its policy on payment for the examinations conducted by the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) and National examinations council (NECO) for its students this academic session.
In her welcome address, the Permanent Secretary, Ekiti State Teaching Service Commission, Dr. (Mrs.) Eunice Dada said that the forum was organized to rub minds on the best way to administer schools to achieve better performance in students final examinations as well as to reposition the sector to secure a more glorious future for Ekiti children.
She called on the principals to bare their minds on matters that could enhance their performance as they discharge of their duties as school administrators.
Dr (Mrs.) Dada appreciated the State government for organizing the forum which she believed would help in the restoration of the dwindle fortune of the education sector.
The president of All Nigeria Confederation of Principals of Secondary Schools (ANCOPSS) in Ekiti State, Mr Oluwole Awolusi thanked the State government for being sensitive to the challenges facing the schools system, assuring that teachers and principals will remain committed and loyal to the government and support its transformation agenda.
He appealed for pardon from the state government for some principals that were found wanting in the discharge of their duties, promising that such principals would turn a new leaf.
